Catherine (the calico) and Walter (the orange tabby) are the official Cat Café Supervisors at the Paw-Rump Cat Café in Pahrump.
They were found abandoned outside our facility’s side door at approximately six weeks old after Brianna, our Executive Director, heard their cries. The timing was especially meaningful, Brianna had lost the love of her life, her orange tabby kitty just two weeks prior, and her calico cat two years before that. Meeting Catherine and Walter felt like a full-circle moment, as if her beloved companions had found their way back to her.
They were named shortly after intake. Catherine was assumed to be female (as 99% of calicos are), and Walter was assumed to be male (as 80% of orange tabbies are). Later, when their sexes were confirmed, it turned out Walter was actually a little lady. By that point, the name Walter had already stuck, so Walter remained Walter, and continues to use he/him pronouns in good fun and with love.
When they first arrived, both kittens were shy and unsure, often hissing when handled and unsure of people. Over time, they transformed completely. Today, they are confident, affectionate, and absolutely love greeting visitors. They are especially gentle with the other cafe cats, having grown up alongside a rotating community of new arrivals.
Catherine and Walter play an essential role in setting the tone of the cafe. They help model safe, playful, social behavior for incoming kittens and show new cats that the space is fun, calm, and safe. Their presence helps create the welcoming, enriched environment our cafe is known for.
They are truly irreplaceable members of the Paw-Rump Cat Cafe family, the work they do for our cats is something no human could replicate.
We thank Catherine and Walter for everything they do.
Your donations are technically what pays their salary (they demand tuna raises regularly, and we have no choice but to comply.)
